Friendly service and a varied menu greeted is when we arrived, on spec ,one Saturday lunchtime. Shortly after opening at 12 noon the place was buzzing with a wide range of ages and group sizes. Clearly this is a regular watering hole for the younger generation but also a reliable venue for family celebrations . On a very warm day the glass conservatory ,we were advised ,may be a little too warm so we could choose from the outside tables - front and rear - or the inside area . We chose the latter with a delightful view across the fields.
A glass of Macallan and a well chilled mineral water aided our menu perusal.
What the young staff lacked in knowledge ,they more than made up for with enthusiasm . We decided on a light meal of Chicken liver and pistachio parfait, toast (and chips!) as one main , and the fish cakes , hand cut chips and winter greens as another. The greens were a delightful surprise of asparagus, long stemmed broccoli spears, and greens perfectly cooked and deliciously fresh.
Filter coffee completed our meal. Cost £31 for a very pleasant, leisurely lunch. We had our own Sunday papers but plenty of reading matter was provided . This is a place where you are welcome, able to relax ,and where there is absolutely no pressure to eat up and leave. A delight.
